Becoming a Wife that Pleases the Lord - August

Pray God's Will, Not Your Own

By: Lara Velez

At the time I am writing this, Rob and I have been together 17 years and married almost 12. We have had a very long journey with plenty of nasty bumps along the way.

Honestly, there were many days, weeks, and even months, I wanted to throw in the towel. I was tired of waiting for him to "grow up."

Unfortunately, I wasted many years worrying about all the ways that he needed to change, grow, and get right with the Lord, that I failed to see my own deficits. We do that a lot as wives. We pray for a "break through" in our husband's lives, yet fail to seek God for help and guidance in our personal walk.

A few years ago the light bulb went on and I began to pray for me. I prayed that God would change ME into the wife that ROB needed. The Lord was faithful and began to reveal to me all the areas where I was not in His will. There were behaviors, mind sets, and patterns I had to allow God to clean out. It was not easy. However, when I got to a place of understanding, I was able to effectively pray for my husband. I began to pray for the thing that GOD wanted for him...not me.

I am here to tell you that PRAYER WORKS! Not always the way we expect it to, however. Many times God has a different and better plan than our own...if we will allow Him to work in US.

Today, I have a husband who seeks God, loves God, initiates prayer, and wants to live his life for the Lord. If you knew where he came from, you would KNOW that PRAYER WORKS! We are talking about a man who rebelled against God, was addicted to drugs and cigarettes, and who wanted nothing to do with the things of God. Now, because of MY obedience and willingness to LET God be God, he is becoming all that God created him to be!

Hmmm...Help Meet. I wish I understood that a few years back!

In closing, the Word says in James 5:16  The earnest heartfelt, continued prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available. So, KEEP praying and seeking God about YOU and then you will be able to pray for your husband properly and unselfishly.

Please pray for me as I walk this road of Becoming a Wife that Pleases the Lord!

See you next month,

Lara :)
