July 2007 - Frugal Wives

This month's Wives of Faith challenge is from Lara Velez, founder of Wives of Faith.

Frugal means not wasteful. God has blessed each one of us...some may have more than others, but we are all BLESSED. With the blessings comes the responsibility of being a good steward with it.

Frugalness goes far deeper when it relates to the marriage relationship. Our husbands are dealing with MANY stresses. We are called to be Help Meets to our husbands. It is our job to relieve as much stress from their lives as possible.

Finances are one very important way to accomplish this. Our husbands hold a HUGE weight of financial responsibility on their shoulders. They feel a heavy burden to provide for us and their children. If we are foolish and frivolous spenders, we are HURTING them, NOT helping them.

This month Wives of Faith will explore frugalness and all the ways that we can bless our husbands through the act of becoming a more frugal wife!

What is a "Frugal Wife?"

A frugal wife is a woman who submits her will to God in the area of her finances. She honors her husband by not lying about her spending. She does all that she possibly can to spend the money in a way that brings glory to the Father and honor to her husband.

The heart of her husband trusts in her confidently and relies on and believes in her securely, so that he has no lack of honest gain or need of dishonest spoil.
- Proverbs 31:11

Here is your Challenge for July:

What can we do to honor God and our husbands through our finances?

• Avoid emotional spending. If you are a wife who uses spending to "get back at" your husband, or for "therapy," then you need to get out of the error you have fallen into and get back into alignment by repenting and turning to your Daddy in Heaven for your comfort.
• Tell the truth. God will NOT honor our finances OR our marriages if we lie and manipulate to get our own way. That is a sure fire way to harm your marriage.
• Confess. If you are doing it wrong now, take it to the Lord. Ask for forgiveness and commit to do it right. Then go to your husband and apologize for dishonoring him.
• Be content. Stop thinking about what you do not have and what you want. Focus on the blessing. Eve made the mistake of missing ALL the many trees that God had blessed her with and focusing on the ONE she could not have. Now look at us!
• Be creative. Find ways to be more frugal with the money you have. Read books and visit websites that offer tips. Pray and ask God to help you. He will.

Spiritual Challenge:

- Study and memorize 2 Corinthians 10:5, We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

- Look up and study the words wise and wisdom in the Word.

- Pray daily about your spending. Include God in all of your financial decisions. He will bless and honor you for your obedience and faithfulness.
